A fisherman trolling through the river in Pai

(written April 16, 2010) I arrived in Pai today and decided to take a walk along the river.  I was expecting something a little bigger, but I guess this would have to do since it is in fact the dry season.  I spotted this fisherman trolling for dinner a little before sunset.

A man hard at work on the Chao Phraya River

When I took my personal longtail boat ride through the channels of the Chao Phraya River (one of my favorite spots in Bangkok) I spotted this man hard at work.  I’m not exactly sure what he is hard at work doing, but nonetheless I thought this was interesting.

Along the river in Kompong Khleang

I headed to the floating village of Kompong Khleang today with a few other couchsurfers.  It was a nice tuk tuk ride through the countryside and then a peaceful boat ride down the river to the Tonle Sap lake where the village was located.  Along the river, I spotted this man alone on his tractor.  I quickly shot a picture and did not think too much about the composition, but when I was going through the photos on my computer there was just something about this picture that I loved!

Begging for Change on the riverside of the Tonle Sap River in Phnom Penh

After exploring the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, I decided to head down to the boardwalk along the Tonle Sap River. It was bustling with people enjoying the sunset, dancing to boom boxes, selling cockroaches, and eating noodle soup. And of course, there are people asking for money. Lots of people asking for money. Some women automatically pick up a baby and follow you around with their hands outstretched and glancing at you then at the baby and then back at you again. Kids pose for pictures and then shove their hands out. They all feel that if they linger just a little bit longer that you will give in.

I caught this woman going from person to person with no luck.

A father taking his daughter out to watch the river

I went out for a bike ride today and took pictures of an array of different topics, but this one was my favorite.  I was taking shots of the river and the reflections (there was even a kayak/boat in the water).  This man and I’m guessing his daughter pulled up and just sat and stared at the river.  It seemed as though he was taking his daughter out on a ride on the bike to just take in the peacfulness of the river in Lang Suan.  I loved the feeling I got from this man (even though he was staring at me awkwardly!).

Aperature: f7.1 Shutter Speed: 1/100

I decided to shoot by this waterway today and spotted these two girls.  I tried to be sly about shooting them, but they of course noticed and started giggling.  As soon as I was discovered, I went to shoot the bridge.

Aperature: f8.0 Shutter Speed: 1/125 sec.

Soon enough, the girls came running up onto the bridge.  Looks like they wanted to be models!  I shot them for a bit and they went running off.  I then moved to shooting the empty bench and thought to myself, “I wish I had a subject!”

Aperature: f6.3 Shutter Speed: 1/25 sec.

Before I could even finish the thought, the girls bounded over to the bench and once again giggled away as I shot them.  They loved it!  I had my own personal models.

Aperature: f8.0 Shutter Speed: 1/100 sec.

I shot this one last photo and was on my way.   How do I keep getting so lucky!!
