Surfboards at a shop on Poppies I in Kuta

I know I already posted a surfboard related picture already but I just loved this one too, so here it is!  There are countless shops on Poppies I and Poppies II in Kuta that are offering discount surfboards and rentals.  I love all the colors!

A fisherman at sunset on Kuta Beach

I’ve been at Kuta Beach for almost a week now and I only saw the sunset the first night.  I decided I definitely needed to change that so my friend and I took a nice walk down the beach to watch the sunset.  It was incredible and although some of the clouds were in the way a bit, I think it really added to sunset.  The colors were insane as well and I caught this fisherman getting a little fishing in before the last remnants of the light were gone.

A lady making an offering on Kuta Beach

The Hindu people are very good about making offerings five times a day.  Walking through the streets, you will surely find yourself almost stepping (and sometimes accidentally stepping) on little offering boxes made out of palm leaves.  I see pigeons pecking at the crackers and cookies left in the boxes and sometimes there are fifty little boxes all heaped up in a corner because no one picked them up.

But nonetheless, it was very spiritually inspiring to see their dedication to their religion.

I caught this lady making an offering on the beach.  They way she knelt and prayed looked so peaceful even among the hecticness of Kuta beach.

One of the many surfboard stands on Kuta Beach

Kuta beach is lined with hundreds of surfboards and you can’t walk through the sand without being offered one.  I wasn’t quite up to venturing out of my comfort zone yet and attempting to surf for the first time in six years, and honestly for the first time ever really (the first couple times I learned to surf I was young, stubborn, and afraid to be under water and definitely came nowhere near standing up).

I vowed to myself that I would in fact rent a surfboard one of the days I was in Kuta.

I just had to work up the courage first.

The tables and tables full of people eager to eat some delicious seafood

When we arrived in Kuta, we already had plans to attend a seafood dinner on the beach in Jimbaran.  We headed over early to get some drinks in us and well before the extravaganza began.  There were no tables on the sand and we looked to be one of the few parties there, but that changed once the sun started going down.

Each of the restaurants started shuttling tables out to the sand and the tables soon filled up as we watched a beautiful sunset.  The seafood was of course amazing and the company was even better!

What a fun first night in Kuta!

The amazing movements of the Balinese Dancers. So incredible!

I had the chance to watch a Traditional Balinese dance tonight and it was absolutely incredible and completely different than anything else.  The way their fingers and hands gracefully twitched to the music and the fact that where they looked and the way their eyes moved side to side with the beat made it one of the most unique dances I have ever seen.  The costumes were gorgeous and I never wanted it to end!

On my Phi Phi island day trip

Yes, I didn say “chillaxing”, beacuse that’s how I felt when I saw this scene in front of me!

I have been wanting to see Phi Phi for a long time and on my last weekend in Krabi I decided to go for it!  In this picture, I am relaxing in Maya Bay, the bay featured in Leonardo DeCaprio’s “The Beach.”  It didn’t quite look like it did in the movie.  The hundreds of half naked tourists and lines of longtail and speed boats on the coast only slightly ruined the allure of the gorgeous bay.  I just tried to picture it without all the people and it was absolutely breathtaking!
